As part of ongoing Workspace upgrades, Google Meet, Google’s response to video calling services like Zoom, is getting a number of beneficial tweaks to its hand-raising feature. A new hand-raising animation, notification sound, and improvements to how hosts are made aware of raised hands are among the new features, as reported by 9to5Google.

While the changes are slight, they will be useful for anyone who uses Google Meet in a big group environment or often attends webinars – furthermore, the new animation is pretty attractive.

As the upgrade rolls out to Workspace users, here’s a rundown of the changes you’ll notice:

1 The video tile’s visual icon and animation have been changed and improved.

2 The tiles of persons with raised hands in the video grid may be shifted to make them more prominent.

3 When the first raised hand is raised, an audio notification is played for all players.

4 A clickable notice that displays the number of raised hands and connects to an ordered list of all participants who have raised their hands.

5 That once a participant speaks, their hand will be automatically lowered.

The new functionality will be available to hosts that have Workspace Essentials, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Plus, Nonprofit, and G Suite Business accounts, according to Google.

You’ll have to wait a little longer for the more intriguing enhancements to Workspace unveiled at the I/O 2021 Developers Conference. Google has officially made Workspace available to anyone with a Google account, as well as the new Chat and Rooms capabilities (replacements for G Chat and Slack). Smart chips, which will make all Workspace apps more interoperable and fluid, are still a ways away.
