Qualcomm Snapdragon might truly need an introduction for a few people. But it’s not the case for many others following it’s popularity, as well as it’s usefulness.

The Snapdragon 888 Plus has been announced by Qualcomm, it will bring extra CPU & AI power to phones from Honor, Xiaomi, Motorola, Asus, Vivo and more.

Finally, Qualcomm has released the Snapdragon 888 Plus, the expected mid year update to its flagship Snapdragon 888 device chipset.

The 888 Plus arrives with improved CPU and AI performance, and still delivers 5G support, and more excitingly we have already had 5 major mobile manufacturers committed to using the new silicon.

Here’s what you need to know.

When will the Snapdragon 888 Plus arrive in phones?

Always, there happens be a bit of a gap between a chipset being announced and the first mobile devices that use it arriving, and there’s no difference in this case.

Actually, while a little number of brands have already teased their aims for the new chip, Qualcomm articulates that the first devices using the 888+ are expected to be made public in Q3 2021 – meaning July, August, and September.

Which phones will use the 888+?

Devices have not been announced in any detail yet, however, we do know a little.

Regarding this, 5 brands which are truly major ones were quoted in Qualcomm’s press release committing to be using the awesome new chip. These are Asus, Honor, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Motorola.

What are the Snapdragon 888 Plus’s specs?

Just like previous ‘Plus’ versions of Qualcomm’s chipsets, the 888 Plus uses essentially the same 5nm hardware as the Snapdragon 888, but has upclocked the CPU and AI cores to enhance performance.

The Kryo 680 CPU returns, but the prime Cortex-X1 core is now clocked at 2.995GHz (which Qualcomm is rounding up to 3GHz), up from 2.84GHz in the previous generation.

Meanwhile the AI Engine has seen an even bigger boost, with around 20% improvement over the 888. It now delivers 32 TOPS (trillions of operations per second), up from 26 TOPS just six months ago.

The chip’s other specs (all of them) are still not changed, this is from the Adreno 660 GPU to Snapdragon X60 5G modem that’s integrated into the chip.
Remaining the same is also Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5.
